Description:
This course describes procedures and techniques drivers should use to safely operate commercial, passenger-carrying vehicles. It also provides refresher training useful in preparation for obtaining a commercial driver’s license (CDL). The course is presented in two semesters.
Semester 1
Describes defensive driving techniques, signals, signs, markings, intersection safety factors, speed limits, and adverse effects of alcohol and other drugs. It discusses markings and proper use of various types of traffic lanes, proper turning and parking techniques, vehicle maintenance, use of safety belts, child safety, and emergencies. It also defines “road rage” and discusses its causes and effects.
Semester 2
Describes adverse driving conditions and discusses techniques for coping with these conditions including the dynamics of vehicle skids and appropriate recovery techniques. It also provides information useful in helping individuals preparing to obtain a CDL.
